How To Add Dai Stablecoin (DAI) To Metamask

The DAI cryptocurrency is a stablecoin pegged to the US Dollar (USD) on a 1:1 ratio. It is the fourth most popular stablecoin by market cap just after USDT, BUSD, and USDC.

DAI is an Ethereum-based stablecoin although it is also available on a handful of the other popular blockchains in the crypto space. The coin’s issuance and development are managed by the Maker Protocol and the Maker Decentralized Autonomous Organization (MakerDAO).

Metamask in contrast is unarguably the most popular non-custodial wallet in the crypto space, especially in the DeFi and NFT sub-spaces. The wallet can be used to store, trade, send and receive various cryptocurrencies and crypto assets across multiple (compatible) blockchains.

The DAI token can be added to Metamask depending on the network you intend to use the token on and if you’re currently searching for methods on how to add DAI to your Metamask wallet, then you’re on the right page.

In this article, you will learn how to add DAI to Metamask easily across multiple compatible blockchains where the token is available.

How To Add DAI To Your Metamask Wallet (Step By Step Guide)

DAI is mostly used on Ethereum even though it is also available on other similar blockchains. Unless you intend to use DAI on another network due to specific reasons, we generally recommend you add the token to your wallet on the Ethereum network.

To add DAI to your Metamask wallet on the Ethereum network, you first need to ensure that the Ethereum Mainnet is selected as the default network on your wallet.

Now that your wallet is connected to the Ethereum mainnet, you can import the DAI ERC-20 token to your wallet using the correct contract address for the token.

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to add DAI to your Metamask wallet easily.

Step 1: Launch Metamask and unlock your wallet.

First, launch the Metamask extension on your web browser by clicking on the Metamask icon, then enter the account password to unlock your wallet.

If you’re on mobile, launch the Metamask mobile app by tapping on the Metamask app icon, then enter your account password or biometrics information to unlock your wallet.

Step 2: Ensure Ethereum is the selected network.

Since we’re adding the DAI token to Metamask via the Ethereum Network (ERC-20), you want to make sure that the Ethereum Mainnet is selected as the default network on your wallet.

By default, the Ethereum mainnet should be the selected network on your wallet, but if you have switched networks in the past, then click on the network dropdown box and select “Ethereum Mainnet” from the list of available networks.

Step 3: Click on [import tokens].

Now that your wallet is connected to the Ethereum Mainnet, scroll down to the bottom of the Metamask window and click on [import tokens].

Step 4: Search for the “DAI” and select it from the list, then click [Next].

On the token import page, search for the DAI token by typing in “DAI” in the search field and then selecting [Dai Stablecoin (DAI)] from the search results. The correct DAI token is usually the first one on the list.

After that, click on [Next].

Step 5: Click on [Import token] to add DAI to your Metamask wallet.

Finally, click on [Import token] to add the Dai Stablecoin (DAI) to your wallet on the Metamask browser extension.

Once the token has been added, you can go back to the Metamask home window to view your DAI balance.

With this, you have successfully added the DAI token to your Metamask wallet on the Ethereum network (ERC-20).

How To Add DAI To Metamask On Other Networks.

The DAI Stablecoin is also available on other blockchains and not just the Ethereum blockchain.

Some of these blockchains where the DAI token is also available are compatible with Metamask and this means that DAI can be added to your wallet using any of these compatible blockchains not just Ethereum.

Below is how you can add the Dai Stablecoin (DAI) to your Metamask wallet using other EVM-compatible networks including Polygon, BSC, Fantom, and Avalanche.

Can You Buy DAI On Metamask?

No, you currently cannot buy DAI directly on your Metamask wallet.

To get DAI on your Metamask wallet, you first need to buy it from a crypto exchange and then transfer it from the said exchange to your Metamask wallet.

We recommend you purchase DAI on the Binance exchange and you can create a free account using this link.

Once you have created an account, you can hop on the Binance website or mobile app and buy DAI directly on the platform using either your credit/debit card, bank deposit, P2P, or third-party payment platforms.

Now that you have purchased some DAI, copy your wallet address from Metmask and transfer DAI from Binance to your Metamask wallet address using either the Binance Smart Chain or the Ethereum network depending on the network you used when adding DAI to your Metamask wallet.

Wrapping Up

The Dai Stablecoin (DAI) is the fourth largest stablecoin in the crypto space by market cap and t is pegged to the US Dollar (USD) on a 1:1 ratio.

There are quite a few ways to add the DAI token to your Metamask wallet and this depends on the network you intend to use DAI on.

You can add DAI to your Metamask wallet on the Ethereum network by simply selecting the Ethereum Mainnet as the default network on your wallet. After that, click on [Import tokens] at the bottom of the page then search for DAI and add the token to your wallet.

On other networks like Polygon, Cronos, Avalanche, and the Binance Smart Chain, you first need to copy the correct contract for DAI on the network you intend to add the token. Next, head over to your Metamask wallet and select your network of choice and add DAI to that network using the contract address you copied.

And that’s about it. If you were searching for a tutorial on how to add DAI to your Metamask wallet, we hope you found this guide helpful.
